On July 10, 2026, IRCC held the 426th Express Entry draw at 10:42 UTC, issuing 500 ITAs to candidates in the "Senior managers with Canadian work experience" category, with a minimum CRS score of 392. To receive an invitation, candidates needed to rank within the top 500. The draw applied a tie-break timestamp of March 15, 2026 (UTC), meaning only candidates who had created their Express Entry profile before that date and time could be included.
This was the second draw for the category since it was created. The first, held on March 5, 2026, issued 250 ITAs at a CRS cut-off of 429. Compared with that debut, invitations in this round doubled and the cut-off fell by 37 points. IRCC has stated that the economic goal behind these rounds is to retain top talent with Canadian work experience in order to support Canada's long-term economic success. The invitation window for this round runs from July 10 to 11, 2026, and eligible candidates may be invited through the Federal Skilled Worker program, the Canadian Experience Class or the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
The category was introduced on February 18, 2026, alongside five new categories. To qualify, candidates must have at least one year of full-time (or the equivalent in part-time) Canadian work experience within the past three years, in one of four senior-management groups under the National Occupational Classification (NOC): NOC 00012 (senior managers in financial, communications and other business services); NOC 00013 (senior managers in health, education, social and community services and membership organizations); NOC 00014 (senior managers in trade, broadcasting and other services); and NOC 00015 (senior managers in construction, transportation, production and utilities). Applicants must also have performed the lead statement of the occupation and a substantial number of its main duties, including all essential duties. Any periods of work performed in Canada without authorization are excluded from the qualifying experience.
2026 Express Entry at a glance: category-based selection dominates
In 2026, Canada carried out a broad overhaul of its category-based selection system. It added new categories for Researchers, Physicians, Transport occupations and Skilled military recruits (with Canadian work experience where applicable), while renewing its French-language proficiency, Healthcare and social services, STEM, Trades and Education categories. As part of this reset, the work-experience threshold for category-based eligibility was raised from 6 to 12 months in 2026.
Across the 38 draws held through July 10, the distribution of invitations varies widely by category. The Canadian Experience Class and French-language proficiency categories dominate, together accounting for more than 80,000 ITAs, while newer high-skilled categories such as senior managers and physicians remain comparatively small.
| Draw category | Number of draws | Total ITAs |
|---|---|---|
| Canadian Experience Class (CEC) | 11 | 45,250 |
| French-language proficiency | 7 | 35,500 |
| Healthcare and social services | 2 | 8,000 |
| Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) | 13 | 5,979 |
| Trades occupations | 1 | 3,000 |
| Senior managers with Canadian work experience | 2 | 750 |
| Physicians with Canadian work experience | 2 | 662 |
| Total | 38 | 99,141 |
The figures also reveal a striking contrast in access. The Provincial Nominee Program recorded the most draws, at 13, yet produced only about 5,979 ITAs, with cut-offs persistently above 700. By comparison, categories such as physicians and senior managers have carried markedly lower cut-offs, offering candidates a differentiated and more accessible route to an invitation.
For managerial candidates, the outlook is encouraging: larger targeted rounds and falling cut-offs are steadily improving their chances, and category-based draws are becoming an increasingly important pathway to Canadian permanent residence.
